The more appropriate term rather than artificial lakes would be reservoirs. It is true that due to Singapore's need for water it has built alot of reservoirs in its nations. These reservoirs collect rain water which are then filtered for consumption by its citizens. This method, however, is not applicable to all countries. Due to the location of Singapore, it rains often there. It is thus able to collect and store water in its reservoirs for later usage. However, many nations lack safe drinking water often also lack rain. Thus for reservoirs to be used in their nation, water has to be directed from other water sources instead of relying on rainfall. Furthermore, as Singapore is a MDC, it is able to support expensive filtering systems. This might not be the case for LDCs around the world. However, there is many research being done on water purification to lower the price of the process. Delegates are encouraged to look up further information on water purification and its role in providing affordable drinking water.
